Best Beginner DJ Controllers: Numark Mixtrack Pro II

I will start creating posts on the best beginner DJ controllers for people to start out with.  I have had a lot of questions regarding what equipment to buy, so I thought this would help my  readers understand what to buy/why to buy it.  This is my opinion, and others may differ, but I feel everything I say about these controllers are true.  So, for the first controller in the best beginner DJ controllers list, I will talk about the Numark Mixtrack Pro II.

Buying The Right DJ Equipment 1With this being said, this is how the review will be set up:

  • First look at the controller.
  • How the controller feels.
  • Conclusion of the DJ controller

First look at the Numark Mixtrack Pro II

The Numark Mixtrack Pro II is the new and improved Numark Mixtrack Pro.  The Numark Mixtrack Pro was the #1 selling DJ controller for good reason.  The Numark Mixtrack Pro series offer the greatest package among even the best beginner DJ controllers.  Even though this is more ideal for beginner DJs, anyone can use it.  It has a large range of functionality, clean set up, and many glowing LEDs to add to your inspiration and positive looks/vibes while rocking out to huge crowds.

There are many features on the Numark Mixtrack Pro II – another reason why it made it to the best beginner DJ controllers list.  Taking a first look at it we see 8 pads per each deck for working with hot cues, loops, samples, and effects.  These multifunctional pads allow for much expansion and creativity to be incorporated into any DJ set.  Above the pads are four knobs which give the user functionality when using the effects or samples.  Under the pads is a platter to control the track being played.  The tops of the platters allow the user to stop the track and move it back or forth.  The sides of the Numark Mixtrack Pro II has platters which are used to be able to nudge the track back or forth while beatmatching.  There are pitch faders on the side to increase or decrease the tempo of the song. Furthermore, it has the typical EQ, faders, and play/pause/cue functionality.  It also has a stutter button which allows for a cool effect for DJs.

Another reason the Numark Mixtrack Pro II is one of the best beginner DJ controllers is that it can be used with Serato DJ, so there is a USB port on the back which plugs right into your computer for plug and play ability.  Next to this is an RCA input for plugging right into speakers.  The Numark Mixtrack Pro II also has two headphone ports, and a mic port (with an adjustable mic gain) for users to be able to plug in their favorite pair of xheadphones or a nice mic.Buying The Right DJ Equipment 3

Overall, the first looks of the Numark Mixtrack Pro II are definitely positive, making it a great candidate for one of the best beginner DJ controllers.  It looks cool, is light (but has a solid feel), and connects to a computer right off the bat.

How the Numark Mixtrack Pro II Feels

Looks are not everything when judging the best beginner DJ controllers; however, with the Numark Mixtrack Pro II the look and feels are pretty accurate with each other.  I will cover the pros and cons of the Numark Mixtrack Pro II respectively:

Pros:

  • Very smooth feel of platters.  Nice and stable.
  • Platters are also accurate to the touch – very important.
  • All the features such as the buttons and knobs integrate well with Serato DJ.
  • Buttons are accurate to the touch – essential for DJs.
  • The faders feel good and stable to the touch.
  • Inputs and output ports on the Numark Mixtrack Pro II are well built and will last.
  • Knobs with notches are accurate and do exactly as expected.

Cons:

  • Platters are a bit small for some users.  Bigger platters would be nice.
  • 8 cue pads are cool that they are multifunctional, but this can make this difficult while trying to make a quick mix on the fly as they double for the effects, cues, and loops.
  • The plastic on the Numark Mixtrack Pro II is tough, but doesn’t feel as strong as other DJ controllers.

As you can see, the pros greatly outweigh the cons in regards to the Numark Mixtrack Pro II which is why it made it to the best beginner DJ controllers list.  This is why it is a great controller.  Every DJ controller has its cons, and while the Numark Mixtrack Pro II does too, it is still great.

Conclusion of the Numark Mixtrack Pro II

Overall the Numark Mixtrack Pro II is one of the best beginner DJ controllers to start with.  Another main reason why I really like the Numark Mixtrack Pro II is that it gives users the ability to learn Serato DJ one a cheaper controller.  Then, once they decide they like to DJ, they can upgrade to more expensive equipment and still use Serato DJ with this equipment!  This way they don’t need to learn another style or program for DJing. This is a great way for DJs to get a small dose of DJing to test out if they like it before they commit to it.Buying The Right DJ Equipment 5

I totally recommend buying the Numark Mixtrack Pro II if you’re looking for a DJ controller.  It is light, portable, and easy to use.  Furthermore, it is set at a great price – another consideration in the best beginner DJ controllers!  The Numark Mixtrack Pro II will definitely get you the best bang for your buck out of any of the other DJ controllers.

Buying The Right DJ Equipment 6Lastly, I would recommend buying it through Amazon.com.  They give you the best price and you can even see that it is their #1 best seller.  Many of the reviews on Amazon would agree the Numark Mixtrack Pro II is one of the best beginner DJ controllers out there.
